Athletics Department

Camp Laurel has been under the directorship of Keith Klein and Jem Sollinger since 1994. Debbie Sollinger joined Keith and Jem as a Director in 2007. Keith, Jem, and Debbie oversee all the operations of the camp.

Jeremy "Jem" Sollinger         Director
Norwood, New Jersey
Jem is a graduate of Union College where he was a 4-year varsity soccer player and captain of the alpine ski team. He is actively involved with the American Camp Association, a former member of the Tri-State Camp Conference steering committee and a committee member for SCOPE, an organization that sends disadvantaged children to camp. A native of Westport, CT, Jem now resides in Bergen County, New Jersey with his wife Debbie and daughters Anabel and Madeline.
Debbie Sollinger         Director
Norwood, New Jersey

Working closely with the Head Counselors and with Jem and Keith, Debbie focuses on camper and staff relations. She hails from Baltimore, Maryland, where she attended the Park School and was a member of the varsity lacrosse and field hockey teams. A graduate of the University of Texas, Debbie is a Certified Social Worker and a graduate of Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiller School of Social Work. She is training at the Ackerman Institute in New York City to become a family therapist.

Claire Hughey Girls Head Counselor
New York, New York

Claire burst onto the Laurel scene in 2006 and we immediately knew we had a “keeper.” After working with our 1st and 2nd grade girls her first summer, Claire took charge of our Acadians in ’07. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Claire attends New York University, where she serves as a Resident Advisor and will complete her degree in education and chemistry next spring. A former dancer, actress and a Laurel College Days Captain in ‘06, Claire is a wonderful combination of warmth, patience and “TLC”.

Peter Buehner Boys Head Counselor Orono, Maine
This is Peter’s second year as Boys Head Counselor, having trained as a Campus Leader and Department Head the past six summers. A graduate counseling instructor at the University of Maine, Peter was formerly the Training Director at the Reebok Sports Club in New York City. He combines athleticism, compassion and the ability to make all around him feel comfortable and well-taken care of.
 
Talia Caron Director of Human Resources Washington, D.C.
2008 marks Talia’s 11th summer with Camp Laurel. In the winter, Talia works full-time as our Director of Staff Recruiting. Together, she and Jem manage the interviewing and hiring of Camp Laurel’s talented counselor corps. Talia is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal with a degree in Economics. She and her husband Darren reside in Washington, D.C. During the summer, Talia focuses on human resources and staff development.
 

Sally Buggs

Administrative Director Lake Worth, Florida
In her 23rd year at camp, Sally is the glue that holds us all together, touching nearly every facet of our operation. She has been a full-time staff member since she started in 1985 as a counselor and athletics instructor. If you know Camp Laurel, you surely know Sally and all the amazing things she does for camp.
 

Andrea Daniel

Administrative Manager Nyack, New York
Andrea manages the winter office and helps anchor the summer office. She graduated from Colorado State University before completing her Master’s in Public Administration at New York University’s Robert Wagner School of Public Service. She is a wonderful addition to the full-time Camp Laurel family.
