Our program is divided into 6 core areas, each supervised by a professional in the respective field.
Laurel's extensive sports program offers something for everyone. Five large athletic fields for soccer, baseball, football, lacrosse, softball and field hockey; a pro-sized hockey arena; a state-of-the-art gymnastics center; numerous sports courts; a fitness center and fit-trail; four regulation basketball courts and an archery range allow campers to improve individual skill and experience the value of teamwork. The program offers challenging and wholesome competition. At Laurel, we recognize instruction, sportsmanship and participation as the major components toward building athletic skills.
Our expansive dock system anchors a dynamic swimming program featuring American Red Cross instruction. We have a fleet of 4 Championship Mastercraft Ski Boats, 4 Hobie Cats, 18 Vanguards and Sunfish, 24 canoes and numerous other playaks and fun-craft. The camp fronts on Echo Lake, a 3 mile long spring-fed lake. Laurel occupies more than 2000 feet of private shoreline.
Our tennis program is one of the finest in camping. The importance of this sport is emphasized by a well-qualified, mature staff and excellent facilities. Our 15 well-maintained, all-weather tennis courts are nestled in a central wooded area that provides a natural windbreak. Our program is under the direction of Intercollegiate Coaches.
A staff of 25 comprise our extensive Adventure Program, consisting of hiking and backpacking trips, a 28-station high and low challenge ropes course, two Climbing Towers, a Bouldering Wall, mountain biking and a fine in-camp Discovery program exposing campers to the wonders of Maine.
Our Arts Center offers painting and drawing, ceramics, photography, sculpture, Metalsmithing and much more. Campers with a flair for performance participate in technical classes and frequent stage productions at the Laurel Theatre. This professionally-equipped theatre has a full-size stage, dressing rooms and state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment.
Riders at Camp Laurel enjoy two 12-stall barns and two superb riding and jumping rings, as well as a six-acre cross country course and miles of woodland trails. The program is under the direction of an NCAA Equestrian coach.
