Camp is Looking Great!

Camp is right around the corner. Eighteen days to be exact.  Our first set of staff arrived and are busy getting everything ready for arrival day!! Our pre-camp crew is made up of about 30 counselors from all over the country. They spend the morning and afternoon mowing, painting, weed-whacking, setting up docks, moving ping pong tables and generally turning camp into our summer home.

But pre-camp is so much more than that. For the 2018 staff experiencing pre-camp for the first time, it’s about getting acclimated to Laurel, exploring Maine during time off and forming some of the best friendships they’ll ever know. The confidence the pre-camp staff gain from being here early is noticeable. They’ve already made Laurel their summer home. When the balance of the staff arrive by June 15th, they’ll see this crop of pre-camp staff and assume they’ve each been at Laurel for many summers.  They instantly become a pre-formed welcoming committee.

The anticipation for camper arrival continues to build with each passing day, and this pre-camp season has already proved that Summer 2018 will be one for the record books. We can’t wait to greet all of you very soon!

And So It Begins…

detailWe know the emotions are running high today…and will be tonight. It’s time for last family meals, lots of stories, some nerves and great, fun dreams of a summer that kicks off tomorrow. We have been busy preparing since last August. Camp looks beautiful: our facilities are in top shape, the lake has warmed to its June temperature and the cabins are set. Mostly, our staff are eagerly and anxiously awaiting the arrival of our campers.

We understand the angst of our new campers…and we are ready for them! We couldn’t be more prepared, more excited, more energized and more enthusiastic about what’s to come.

Sleep well, campers. We cannot wait to see you!!

We Can’t Wait For Campers to Arrive!

Camp is only hours away!!!  Our staff spent the last couple of days unpacking, setting up cabins, making work wheels and nametags and getting each cabin and bed set just right so when campers arrive, they’ll feel right at home.  Laurel Today is up and running so make sure you check out photos of Staff Orientation right on the Camp Laurel website.  Everyone here is so excited for the Laurel Family to reunite once again!  Safe travels to everyone this weekend.   We can’t wait for you to get here!!

We Can’t Wait to Welcome Campers!

Wow this week of orientation just flew by! Our staff spent the last week getting to know one another and learning what being a Camp Laurel counselor is all about. What a great time it’s been! The staff campfire showed us what incredible talent we have with us this summer. The ladies of Kennebec took home the trophy in the annual Campus Competes where we played Captain’s Coming, Flashlight Sing and other great camp games. Well done ladies! We spent all day yesterday unpacking camper bags and making the cabins look great so everyone will feel right at home when they arrive. Today, our staff had the day off so they’ll be nice and rested when the campers arrive tomorrow. Only one more day! We can’t wait!

Staff Orientation is in Full Swing!

The summer is just around the corner! Staff Orientation is in full swing and our staff is having a blast. We couldn’t be more excited about our new staff members…plenty of familiar faces around as well. Yesterday we went wild for Staff Chaos and we got some great photos for Laurel Today. Field night was a blast as well. Last night we had a professional square dance caller come in and we had ourselves a little Hoe Down. The weather’s been amazing — 80s and sunny almost every day. Still plenty of fun events going on the next few days. Tonight is the Orientation campfire. We can’t wait for the campers to arrive Saturday!!
